Two Injuries/Two Weeks Off

Life has a way of getting in the way when you’re working hard to achieve a goal. Three weeks ago we had a substitute teacher in my aerobics class. She was a weight lifter and much of our routine focused on lifting weights. I’d been going to class for almost three months, done some weights and thought I could handle the new routine. But a few days after class my arm and shoulder started to hurt. Last Friday I could not raise my arm above my shoulder without severe pain. Finally, time to go see the doctor. (more…)

Life Without Chocolate

As I enter my third month of weight loss I ask myself is it getting easier or harder. Some things are easier but overall it is still hard. For years now I’ve pretty much eaten what I wanted and there are days when I just want to sit down and pig out. I don’t seem to crave sweets and sugar as much but I still have not completely deleted those from my diet. To be honest it is hard for me to imagine life without chocolate. I’ve never particularly liked dark chocolate. But I love milk chocolate and white chocolate and if it has caramel or whipped topping or nuts ……… that’s the best. Milky Way is my favorite. (more…)

Be Active in North Carolina

This week was much better for me. I lost 1 pound. So, I’m a little over 13 lbs lost in 8 weeks. I can tell a difference in how I look and how my clothes fit. It’s a holiday weekend and thankfully I don’t have a lot planned. House and dog sitting which means I am by myself. No cookouts, no big temptations. But that comes next weekend. I’m going out of town for 2 1/2 days. Staying in a hotel and eating out. So, that means I need to be extra diligent this coming week.

This weekend I’ve been reviewing a study by a non-profit agency, be active North Carolina. The obesity rates in our state have tripled in the past 25 years. That is alarming!

The study talks about the medical consequences of this, lost time from work, monetary cost, premature death, etc. The goal of this agency is to empower North Carolinians to lead healthy, physically active lifestyles.  (more…)
